New Moons are times of new beginnings, planting seeds and setting intentions. The Moon in Scorpio is related to all things deep, dark and mysterious. Scorpio is the sign of birth, death and renewal . This is one of the best New Moon’s to work on emotional healing by releasing and letting go of old attachments that no longer serve our needs.
The Moon in Scorpio is sort of like going on a blind date only to discover that your partner is Ereskigal, the Sumerian goddess of darkness and the underworld. A goddess, not a god, ruled the underworld. Ereskigal is an earlier form of Pluto.
It is Ereskigal who strips us bare to the bone and of everything which has given us an identity is taken away and leaves us for dead, only to discover that we rise once again out of the ashes renewed and resurrected. It was Carl Jung who said “we discover what truly supports us when that which we thought supported us is taken away.” We find out there is a part of us still there, a part of us that is indestructible and eternal.
Healing rituals with the New Moon in Scorpio are about working in the dark. The wounded animal withdraws into the stillness of the dark empty cave in order to heal itself. Likewise the psyche requires that we go down into the depths of our unconscious in order to heal the soul. The symbol for the degree of the New Moon reads: An Eagle with a snake in its beak. Denotes a forceful, determined character that will not easily be imposed on. With himself he is continually at war, being swayed by two emotions, one uplifting, the other degrading. What he wishes to remain in mastery will remain. It is a symbol of watchfulness.
This New Moon in Scorpio precedes Samhain/Halloween which marked the Celtic New Year, for our ancestors knew that from the dark time, the dark silence, came the whisperings of a new beginning and the stirring of the seed underground. This is also the time of the year when the veil between the two worlds is at its thinnest. This is indeed one of the most conducive times to make contact with our ancestors and the spirit world. The reason people wore masks and dressed in costumes was to frighten or scare the spirits away, and they believed the spirit couldn’t find you if you wore a mask.
Chiron (Wounded Healer) went direct in motion on the 25th after being retrograde since May. When a planet moves direct in motion (forward) there is a releasing, freeing of the energies. This is a time to shift our energies from attending to our inner wounds, to participate with group and community healing services (Aquarius). Humanistic astrologer Dane Rudhyar predicted that there would be a new planetary body discovered between the orbits of Saturn and Uranus & that it would act like a “higher Moon”. The paradox in our wounding lies in the key to our healing and it all has to do with emotional (Moon) healing. Chiron acts as a bridge or link between two worlds, the last of the personal planets (Saturn) and the beginning of the transpersonal planets (Uranus). Chiron was discovered on November 1, 1977 the day exactly in the middle of two ancient festivals of the dead ~ Samhain, October 31st, and All Soul’s Day November 2nd. This serves as a powerful reminder that Chiron is a bridge or link between two worlds.
On Election Day (USA) November 4, 2008 Saturn makes it opposition to Uranus, This is the first of five passages until July 26, 2010. Saturn represents the government, big business, the status quo, and the past. Uranus represents change, equality, freedom from the past, new breakthroughs. The last cycle between Saturn and Uranus occurred between 1964-1967. This was a profound time of change and Cultural Revolution such as the Civil rights movement, the Hippie (free love) movement, the Anti-War movement and the Woman’s Liberation movement for equality. Once again we all feel collectively the scent of change and revolution in the air.
The one area that does concern me is that a Saturn/Uranus cycle can suggest major problems with electronic and new technology that could set up the alarming potential of massive voter fraud. The Republican’s, like Saturn/Coronus, doesn’t want to give up his power or authority so he swallowed, devoured all his children. This serves as a powerful metaphor that Saturn doesn’t want to empower his children. It was the fear of change, of the new, that ultimately lead to his castration by his own son Zeus/Jupiter. This opposition cycle began back in 1988-89, which began in Sagittarius and moved into Capricorn. We had major economic challenges of the Soviet Union called perestroika, and the Soviet Military (Saturn) pulled out of Afghanistan because of the perseverance and determination of the Afghan “freedom fighters”. We can expect a major shift from the masses that will be as potent, and transformative as was the situation in the mid-1960s.
A political earthquake will erupt shocking the world. Let freedom ring once again!
